On the afternoon of Sunday October 5th the Junior League team of 9-12 year olds travelled to Barnet Copthall to compete in their biggest challenge so far – the Southern Final. Their opposition came from the winners of the various junior leagues in the Southern half of the country – City of Derby, Norwich, Bournemouth, Barnet Copthall and Northampton.
The atmosphere was electric and very loud throughout in the packed auditorium.
Of the first block of 8 relays Guildford won 4 and after 10 events were 2 points ahead. From that point the margin grew with great swimming from the whole team.
Individual wins came from Izzy Fakkel in both 50 back and breast. Jordon McPhail emulated Izzy winning 50 back and fly. Zara Agius – 50 fly- Charlie Trotman and Eva Munden – both 50 breast, Noa Doest – 50 back and Kira Turpin- 25 breast completed the roster of Guildford winners.
The last batch of 9 relays sealed the victory with 5 first places. The 4 coaches accompanying the swimmers – Sally, Laura, Steve and Jo – were both proud and delighted with such a great performance from the team.
Guildford now progress to the National Junior League Final to do battle with the Northern Clubs on Sunday November 30th at Corby.
