On Sunday 1 March at Crystal Palace the Surrey County Championships ended with Guildford City accomplishing an historic feat thought to never having been achieved before. On this final day at the relay gala, there were fourteen events in total with City literally sweeping all fourteen victories. One after the other the gold medals went to the City contingent who clearly demonstrated their immense strength in depth in race after race.
“This was truly an awesome team performance” stated Chief Coach Richard Garfield. “We are incredibly proud of the swimmers and their Coaches for this superb showing. I’ve been attending the Surreys for 26 years and I’ve never witnessed anything like it.”
Guildford won the Top Club award for the 12th consecutive year outdistancing second place Dulwich Dolphins by 1834 points.
