Guildford City Swimmers battled hard to gain an excellent 4th place at the Arena League Cup Final held in Cardiff at the International Swimming pool. It was an amazing competition with over 50 events, testing the squads strength against top 10 clubs in the country. All had qualified by winning their respective regional competitions that are held over 3 rounds during October, November and December.
Guildford City Swimming Club were representing the South of England for the 10th consecutive year were to battle it out with, City of Peterborough, Stockport Metro, City of Leeds, Hatfield, Plymouth Leander, City of Salford, City of Liverpool, Preston and Boldmere.
This is one of the few occasions in the competition calendar where squads get to compete as a team, the atmosphere was electric with both swimmers and spectators getting behind their teams. Parents were out in force with Horns, drums, flags, silly outfits and co-ordinated team colours giving off a real carnival feel.
It was a very close call for 2nd place with only 11 points separating 2nd 3rd and 4th. All 54 of the City Swimmers did us proud and represented the South of England with passion and style. It was amazing to watch some of the team compete with Olympic Gold medallist and World Record holder Rūta Meilutytė.
Richard Garfield Said “A great celebration of swimming at the highest level across all age groups. We are very proud to be representing the South once again in this terrific Cup Final.
We are already making plans to return next year and enjoy this wonderful event.”
