Steve Middleton – Says Farewell as he Retires as Chairman after 20+ years in the Club

Heartfelt thanks were given to Steve Middleton at the AGM as he retired as Chairman of the Club after more than 20 years as a member having spent most of his time on the Committee, even holding the office as chairman twice!
Steve has been a major part of the amazing transformation of the Club, from a small, nearly bankrupt Club over 20 years ago, to one with a 1000 members, 100 staff and a very healthy bank balance. Coupled with his support and belief in the professional coaching team led by Chief Coach Richard Garfield this allowed the Club to become one of the most successful clubs in the country.
Steve was presented with a gift to ensure he remembered his time with the Club, this included a framed photograph to mark the achievement of the Club winning the Arena league in 2016. During his speech he thanked all those Chairmen who had gone before him along with his fellow Trustee and Directors past and present and all the Staff who had played their part in the success of the Club.  Steve said the Club would be in safe hands with the Trustees and Directors appointed for 2018/19 and looked forward to reading the Clubs continuing successes.
Richard Garfield gave a thank you speech to Steve.  All those that know Steve will remember him as an incredibly fair minded, kind and considerate person.  Steve was an integral part of the growth of the Club and gave his unfailing support, which should be noted,  was on a voluntary basis for 20 years.
Steve inherently understood elite sports and what it takes to be the best.  Richard thanked Steve wholeheartedly for his support over the last 20 years saying ‘we couldn’t have done it without you’- a sentiment that all those that have worked with Steve will endorse.
We wish Steve and his family a happy retirement from swimming!
