On day one of Men’s Club Captain Marco Loughran competing for Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Coaches at Guildford City Swimming Club were busy preparing fifty plus swimmers for the National Youth & Age Group Championships to be held at Ponds Forge Sheffield 30 July to 10 August.
“This is by far the largest contingent attending the National Championships in Club history” stated Chief Coach Richard Garfield. “We are delighted to be sending a total of 41 individual qualifiers and 15 teams – a big jump from our previous best of last year when we sent 28 individuals and 6 teams.”
Amongst the individual qualifiers will be a number of first time swimmers who have raised their standards this year to make it to Britain’s top youth and age group swimming event and there will be three Guildford swimmers competing in the Multi Class Disability events.
National Age Group Lead Coach Lee Spindlow was delighted with the big group; ” Each day we are experiencing packed training sessions and the atmosphere at Surrey Sports Park is really good. There are a total of 12 relay events and we’ve had 15 teams actually qualify! Our Girls 11 to 14 year old Medley squad have established a new precedent for Guildford City with the A, B & C Teams qualifying for Nationals”
Richard Garfield continued “The Club is extremely proud of all of its swimmers and Coaches. This is as always a massive team effort and our thanks must go to our hard working committee and all of the parents.”
