National Arena League South 2015 – Finals Round – 12 December 2015
Guildford City Swimming Club “A” Team maintained its remarkable 11 year unbeaten run in the National Arena League South with an emphatic final round victory securing the League Championship Crown once again. K2 in Crawley, unusually set short course, witnessed a night of real excitement and superb swimming as City took on the best of the South of England and extended the longest winning streak in League South history.

Final placing
1 Guildford City 240
2 Thanet Vikings 198
3 Oxford 176
4 Wycombe 161
5 7 Oaks 140
6 Beckenham 134

“It is very easy for a team to become complacent after being on the top for so long” stated an elated Chief Coach Richard Garfield. “But from the very first event our swimmers and their coaches showed once again that their hunger and ambition are paramount. Tonight was an awesome display of powerful swimming across all ages. We are so proud of everyone involved.”

On the night Guildford was unbeatable. From the very first event through to the last they were convincing winners at every level. “We led the gala from the event 1 with Sophia Wilson’s victory in the 200m Individual Medley and never looked back!” stated Regional Squad Coach Andy Browning. “Our swimmers were inspired“. Of the fifty events on offer Guildford had 17 first places, 16 seconds and 10 thirds.

Guildford’s B & C Teams were also out in force in the finals round but unfortunately a power failure in Woking meant the B team did not get a chance to compete. The League Management have subsequently decided not to swim the round and the team ended its 2015 campaign in 12th place in the Premiership. The C team competed very well on the night and secured 12th place in Division 1.
