Guildford City Age Group swimmers round off an amazing SER Championships

The final weekend of competition for the Guildford City Swimmers took place at the Crawley K2 pool for the South East Regional Championships last weekend. With many swimmers still chasing their National Qualification time this was going to be a very exciting weekend.

From the County Squad perspective 3 more Gold medals. Firstly Imogen Bloomfield won the 10 year old 200 breast with a great finish in 3.11.10 to win by seven one hundredths. Toby Stewart led from start to finish to take the Gold in the boys 10 200 back and in the last session Max Windle tore the field apart to win Gold in the boys 10 400 free in an amazing time of 5.14.11. Sally Williamson Lead Coach County Squad said, “Another wonderful weekend for GC, very proud of all of them and all the County squad qualifiers at SERs”.
For Regional Squad 5 boys featured in the top 10 in their 11 year old category BAGCAT awards: 1: Jordon McPhail, 2: Noa Doest, 5: Alex Macdonald, 6: Alex Hicks and 10: James Morris. 3 girls featured in the top 10 in their 11 year old category: 1: Tilly Hansen-Hamilton, 4: Isabella Fakkel and 9: Sophie Thomas and Megan Wallis also finished 9th in her category.
There were 2 new National Qualifiers in Isabella Fakkel and Jordan McPhail (both qualifying a year out of age). Tilly Hansen-Hamilton and Piers Bowden also added to their previous success with another 2 national qualifying times each. Laura Henry Lead Coach Regional Squad said, “ A fantastic achievement by all the swimmers and a very successful weekend for Regional Squad with some outstanding swims NQT’s and personal best times.

The National Age Group squad had a fantastic weekend. Sophia Wilson won the 200m and 100m back, 200m IM, 200m Breaststroke with some amazing swims and times. Guildford City’s amazing strength in breaststroke showed through in the 11/12 200m with Sophia Wilson, Tatiana Belonogoff , Isabella Fakkel, and Eva Munden coming 1st 2nd 3rd 4th respectively . Rosie Arnold won the u13 200m breaststroke in convincing style with Amy Hodgson 3rd.
The boys 200m fly was exciting with mature swims from Max Jameson and Ben Rowett to take 1st and 3rd. Max Jameson also won the 200m back with a national rankings topping performance.
Tatiana Belonogoff and Sophia Wilson were also 1st & 2nd in the 11/12 100m breaststroke.
Guildford swimmers continues this their winning streak in the 400m in the 11, 12 and 13 yr old categories.

The boys completed a historic clean sweep of relays, with some great individual swims. The Girls were 1st in the medley and 2nd on both freestyle relays. We are waiting for confirmation on how many Age Group teams have qualified for the Nationals but expect this to be another record breaking year.
