THE NUMBERS TELL THE TALE…

…of a great weekend of fast swimming for Guildford Swimmers at the Derventio Excel February Festival at Ponds Forge, Sheffield on 8th and 9th February.

Unperturbed by the prospect of Friday traffic on the M1, 39 swimmers and supporters set course for Sheffield over the weekend, returning on Sunday with a handsome return.

99 PBs from 204 Swims, including a whole series of new and improved Regional Qualifying Times, in the middle of the current training cycle is remarkable in itself. But a number of special mentions are merited.

In the realms of the British Swimming Championships, special congratulations are due to Rubens King for his qualifying 200 IM swim, Katie Hodgson for an improved 200 Breaststroke time and to Chris Green, who also improved his 100 & 200 Breaststroke marks.

Those following the exploits on Twitter @Guildfordcitysc will know that it was also ‘raining’ NQTS; the list is mightily impressive.

New NQTs were achieved by:
1. Rosie Arnold – 100 Breaststroke
2. Danni Benn – 100 & 200 Fly
3. Rubens King – 200 IM
4. Jan Rasmussen – 400 IM
5. Megan Wallis – 200 Breaststroke
6. Sophia Wilson – 100 & 200 Backstroke

A further number of swimmers improved their previous marks:
1. Kate Alexander – 400 IM
2. Danni Benn – 50 Back
3. Joe Clark – 100 Fly
4. Henry Goodlud – 100 Breast
5. Chris Green – 100 & 200 Breast
6. Katie Hodgson – 200 Breast
7. Max Jameson – 200 IM
8. Rubens King – 200 Back, 200 IM
9. Marco Loughran – 100 Back

And no great weekend would be complete without some new Club Records, and we had 6 of them!
1. Henry Offin – 50, 100 & 200 Free and 100 Fly
2. Chris Green – 100 & 200 Breast. Chris also swam within his old 200 Breast Record when trying to repeat his exploits in the final of the same event.

Congratulations to all; you make us very proud.
