CITY DOMINATE AT THE SOUTH EAST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Guildford City Swimming Club dominated the South East Region Relays at Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth over the weekend 23/24 May. Out of a total of twelve relay events, City won six gold, three silver and one bronze medal. “It is always wonderful to see our strength in depth as a Club” stated Chief Coach Richard Garfield. “We are immensely proud of all of our swimmers and their coaches”

The senior squad of men & women 17 & over won every event, while the Girls 14 to 16 took silver in each of their races. The Boys 14 to 16 enjoyed a bronze medal in the 4 x 200m Freestyle relay.
National Age Group Lead Coach continued “Our success has been built on a combination of superb dedicated athletes, excellent facilities and great coaches. Where most clubs had one or possibly two coaches on deck for the weekend, we had nine; we don’t leave anything to chance”.

Guildford swimmers amassed a further 18 gongs amongst the individual swims at Portsmouth during the weekend where the focus was the middle and long distance events.

Tilly Hansen – Hamilton in the Girls 13 year old group took gold in the 400m Individual Medley and bronze in the 400m Freestyle. Sophia Wilson came third in the Girls 14 year old 800m Freestyle whilst Isabella Fakkel was third in the Girls 11/12 year old 400m Individual Medley. Lucy Bean won Gold in the 800m Free 17 & Over.

The 15 year old girls showed their collective “Girl Power” with Olivia NG winning the bronze in the 800m Freestyle and Ellenor Rixon grabbing Silver in the 800m Free and Bronze in 400m Freestyle. Alicia Wilson won Gold in the 400m Individual Medley whilst Rosanna Arnold came 2nd in same event.
Jordon McPhail was a winning machine taking Gold in the 11/12 year old 400m Individual Medley and 1500m Freestyle, & Silver in the 400m Freestyle. Teammate Daniel Donovan won Bronze in the 11/12 year old 1500m Freestyle. Louis Illingworth has a torrid day of racing taking third in the 14 year old 400m Individual Medley, second in the 1500m Freestyle and second in the 400m Freestyle. Rubens King won the 17 & over 400m IM Gold.

The Regional Championships move into their final weekend 30/31 May at K2 in Crawley.
